The House of Power charity provides access to daily essentials, offering relief when making ends meet feels impossible.

How the food relief program works & how to apply

Essential Relief Card

1. Register your interest

Apply online

Choose the way that works best for you to register your interest in receiving help.

  • Use a mobile phone to scan the QR code, which you will find on the vending machine inside Grieger’s IGA to access the online form. Then, submit to register your interest.
  • On the form, we ask you about your preferred method of communication when we contact you. If your registration of interest is via the website or email, you will get an automated response that your submission has been received, a Support Co-ordinator will be in touch and your application will be evaluated within the next 20 working days.

2. Evaluation

Our Support Coordinator will reach out to you

Once we receive your request, a Support Coordinator will contact you. It’s a short conversation with only a few questions to ensure help reaches those most in need. We will assess the following.

  • Your current situation. Tell us about your current situation and how it affects you. We are here to listen to you.
  • Your immediate needs. Please tell us what essentials would make the most significant difference to you.
  • How we can best support you. Let us know if the household essentials we supply are the right support for you.

3. Approval

Receiving your Essential Relief Card

The application process takes about 2-4 weeks. If your registration of interest is approved, you’ll receive your Essential Relief Card, which has an allocated value for use in one of our nominated grocery stores. You will receive your card by post, or we can send it directly to the store to pick it up if you prefer.

  • Just like a store card. The card lets you choose from the stocked essential household items from the vending machine that best suits your needs.
  • No cash, only access to essentials. This store card cannot be exchanged or redeemed for money and can only be used in Grieger’s IGA store. The card has a pre-loaded value and will be topped up on a fortnightly basis.

4. Collect your items

Discreet & simple collection

Visit Grieger’s IGA in Sedan to select items in the vending machine you would like to have.

  • Tap or scan your card at the vending machine.
  • Select the products you need.
  • Pick up your items. quick, easy, and without stress.

How to use your Essential Relief Card at the vending machine

The Essential Relief Card has the value of $75/fortnight and is ready to be used in the vending machine.

The card takes the form of a tap-to-pay tag, which you simply tap on the reader to make a purchase.

Using the tap-to-pay tag is simple

1. Choose your item from the vending machine.

2. When prompted, tap your Essential Relief Card on the payment reader.

3. Wait for the beep or green light to confirm your purchase.

4. The amount will be automatically deducted from your available balance, and your item will be dispensed.
